I attended The Academy Of Country Music Awards Show at the MGM Resort here in Las Vegas over the weekend and I guarantee you none of the Female Country Stars wore a See-Through Top!
That is one of the Great Things about Country Music. You don't have to worry about what your kids, or you, are going to see on stage. In my over 30 years in Broadcasting, most in Country Music Radio, I was NEVER treated Rudely by any of the Artists, Their Bands or their Management. Only ONCE did I encounter a member of a "Well Known Group" who was so high that he was unable to appear at a Pre-Arranged "Meet & Greet" with listeners. How he was able to perform that night Still Amazes Me! I am happy to report that he has since BEAT his Drug Problem and is still a top touring artist.
On the other side of the coin, I have been been "Asked" to leave the backstage area so the artist could do drugs or sleep with Groupies and even thrown out of an area with several Rock Performers.
There is some truth to the old saying, "Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll!"
A story which has always made me proud of Country Music, involves Legend Glen Campbell.
About 25 years ago, I was Broadcasting my Afternoon Show from the WIRK-FM Radio Booth one afternoon at The South Florida Fair. Country Superstar, Glen Campbell who was performing later that night when he walked by and saw me at booth. Glenn asked if he could talk to me privately and so we walked behind the booth to a private area by the station van. What Glen said to me will forever be burned in my mind. He said "Dan, I know you have been to several of my concerts and hung out some in Nashville. As I am sure you know, I have fought some demons over the years and I just want to apologize to you if I was ever rude to you or treated you wrong." I was SPEECHLESS! Something if you know me is something I NEVER am! I told him that he had always been a Great Guy to me, which he had, and how much I Respected him for taking the time to seek me out to apologize.
RESPECT is something which Country Music and it's Performers, is All About!
